Two quick calls to help protect our public schools!

Please call or email Governor Ayotte and ask her to VETO HB 324 (book ban) and HB 90 (allows public schools to hire unlicensed part time teachers). Both bills are headed to the Governor’s desk and could be acted on any day now, so time is of the essence!

HB 324 would impose a ban on curriculum materials and library books containing content that far right politicians and outside interest groups deem “harmful” to students, rather than leaving such decisions to be worked out by educators, local elected school boards, parents and community members. Also, sign onto statewide petitions from BLM NH and Moms Rising/Every Library

HB 90 would eliminate teacher certification requirements for individuals who work less than 20 hours per week as long as they are a faculty or adjunct member at a university or community college. Faculty in higher education settings don’t have the same training or expertise in actual teaching (as opposed to subject matter expertise) as our K-12 teachers.  They are not trained in age-appropriate teaching methods and in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students regardless of ability or experience. Teacher quality is the most powerful indicator of student achievement within a school, and this bill would shortchange students – especially those already disadvantaged because they live in property-poor communities.
