The Kent Street Coalition invites you to join Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (NH-CD2) in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the New Hampshire Constitution on Monday, January 5th in front of the State House Arch on Main Street in Concord from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. We will hear from Congresswoman Goodlander before reading excerpts from the current New Hampshire Constitution.
On January 5, 1776, New Hampshire became the first of the colonies to adopt a written constitution establishing a government independent of Britain, a government answering to the people and not a king.
Though never a perfect document, this original written constitution helped establish enduring principles of democratic governance and the rule of law. In recent times, we have seen these principles challenged beyond anything our forebears, or we ourselves, thought possible.
It is significant that public servants in this country, from the most humble to the most powerful, up to and including the president of the United States, swear an oath of allegiance not to a person but the Constitution. It is how we ensure a government by the people and for the people. It is how we ensure that democracy continues to triumph over autocracy.
Here at the Kent Street Coalition, we are guided by our unwavering commitment to democracy, the Constitution and the rule of law. We think the occasion of the 250th anniversary of New Hampshire’s first written constitution is a perfect time to affirm and celebrate this commitment.
Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander has bravely demonstrated her commitment to these very principles throughout her career. Most recently, she spoke publicly of the duty members of the military have to honor their oaths and to refrain from obeying unconstitutional, illegal orders. For this principled stance, she and her colleagues have faced unprecedented threats from the sitting President of the United States. We are honored to have the Congresswoman join us in this in this 250th celebration of constitutional governance and adherence to the rule of law here in New Hampshire. We welcome all of you, as well!

Wednesday, January 7th and Thursday, January 8th
State House
The House and Senate will be voting on bills held over from last session, many of which aim to further the GOP majority’s dangerous Free Stater agenda. We need folks to show up to protect vulnerable individuals, local communities and fundamental rights. It is time to demand a return to common decency and a commitment to the common good.
Kent Street will be at the State House from 8 am to 10 am. We will spend the first hour outside and then go upstairs at 9 to stand outside of Reps Hall on the 2nd floor. Please join us!
Legislative 101: For those new to the State House or those wanting a primer, meet Louise Spencer outside Reps Hall immediately following the visibility at 10 am. She will take folks into the House gallery answering questions and explaining the legislative process along the way.
