Take action before Tuesday, March 3
Please write or call the committee members about the bill listed below. This is your last chance to be heard before the committees make a recommendation on whether the bills should pass or not.
HB 1165 (title: relative to gender designation on state-issued identification”)
This bill to remove the “X” marker for gender on all state issued IDs, is headed to executive session on Tuesday 03/03/26. HB1165 is also part of a national strategy to systemically remove access to identification for trans and gender-diverse folks.
Action: Email House Transportation Committee ahead of meeting.
From our friends at 603Equality: Policies like these are discriminatory, and put trans and gender diverse folks at greater risk. A similar policy was just enacted in Kansas, and has created legal chaos in the state. The ACLU has opened up suit against the state to protect and affirm the rights of Kansas residents. Accurate and consistent gender markers on identity documents help transgender people gain access to public spaces and resources, as well as dramatically reducing the risk that they will face violence, discrimination, or harassment.
