KEEP UP THE PRESSURE ON GOV. AYOTTE TO VETO SOME AWFUL BILLS
CALLS TO GOV. AYOTTE STILL NEEDED!!
First of all, THANK YOU for all your calls asking Governor Ayotte to veto SB 552, the anti-trans bathroom bill. On Friday she did just that!!!
So pat yourself on the back and celebrate this important win!
And then consider another call, because some bad bills are still awaiting action from the Governor. Here are a few:
Call Governor Ayotte (603-271-2121) about these bills!
- HB 1300 (Local Tax Cap). This bill would require every NH community to include a tax cap question on their November ballots during the 2026 and 2028 general elections. And the state-mandated wording of this ballot question is misleading, indicating that only administrative costs could be cut as a result of a budget cap, when, in fact, reductions in services to students would also be likely outcomes. This misstatement of the consequences of the tax cap would lead some voters to vote yes, even though they’d never do so if they understood the cap’s actual potential impacts. See additional Talking Points HERE.
- SB 434 (Book Ban). It was inspiring to see such high turnout at the “Read-In” on Thursday! The hallway outside Gov. Ayotte’s office was filled with people of all ages reading banned books of their choice, in hopes of encouraging the Governor to veto SB 434 (book ban). Granite Staters have made it clear, again and again, that banning books is not in our DNA. Let’s follow up the Read-In with a flurry of phone calls! See Talking Points HERE. (Easy fill-in form from ACLU HERE, but a personal phone call is most effective.)
- HB 232 (Abortion Restrictions), targeting health centers and hospitals that offer abortion care. This bill opens up privacy concerns, as abortion providers could be reported to the Attorney General’s office, which is then shared with politicians. (Easy-fill form from Planned Parenthood here, but a personal phone call is most effective.)
- HB 1442 (Bathroom Bill). These kinds of identity politics are being prioritized over solving real issues facing Granite Staters. Our trans community is being unfairly targeted and singled out by a vocal political minority who wants to sow fear in our state. Trans people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and should be allowed to participate fully in public life.
A phone call is one of the most effective ways to make your voice heard.

Here is a template you can reference in your call or voicemail:
“Hello, my name is [NAME] and I live in [TOWN]. I am a constituent and I vote in every election. I’m asking Governor Ayotte to VETO the following bill(s):
[List the bills you are calling about and give one or two reasons why you object to them.]
Thank you for listening to my concerns.”
PLEASE NOTE:
UPDATED, PLEASE NOTE: Make sure to read the FINAL version of the bill (that adopted by both chambers). Bills rarely pass through both chambers unamended and toward the end of the session, many bills end up being rewritten in Committees of Conference.
By working closely with our coalition partners, Kent Street Coalition works hard to prioritize those bills that are most likely to have a significant impact, for good or bad, on individuals, our communities and the Granite State as a whole. Based on this work, we put forth recommendations about supporting or opposing bills. However, we encourage everyone to make their own choice about each bill. We include links to bills to help you in this decision-making process.
