Opposing Hateful and Dangerous Bills Good Evening Friends: The Legislative Session is quickly coming to an end and as we expected the NH-GOP has loaded a significant number of dangerous bills into the final sessions. On Thursday May 14th, both the House and Senate will be in session. The bills on the table include the Campus Carry bill, the voting access bill associated with student IDs, several anti-trans bills, several educational censorship bills, an anti-vaccine bill, and the list goes on. We are supporting two key measures: SB498 Wrap-Around Mental Health Care for Minors and the censure of Representative Corcoran.…

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO LOCAL CONTROL? Most of the education-related bills that will be considered in the House and Senate this week have a common theme. As they constantly downshift costs to local communities, Republican/Free State leaders are working hard to “upshift” control over them. These lawmakers want to mandate what teachers can and can’t say in class and demand that teachers relate to students, not as trusted advisors, but as undercover agents expected to “out” their students. They want to dictate the materials public school librarians can put on their shelves and force school administrators to follow a burdensome state-mandated process if a parent…

Why are Executive Councilors Blocking Federal Funding for Childcare in New Hampshire? The New Hampshire Executive Council voted to delay/deny $1.2 million in 100% federally funded child care support tied to the Department of Health and Human Services’ contract amendment with Pyramid Model Consortium. This funding would strengthen Granite Steps for Quality (NH’s child care quality improvement system), expand professional development and coaching for child care providers, and improve support for children with disabilities and developmental delays. Some Executive Councilors objected to diversity, equity, and inclusion language included in parts of the contract, putting critical child care resources at risk.…

OPPOSE HB 1793 OPPOSE HB 1793 so-called CAMPUS CARRY bill in all its forms, original or as amended. HB 1793 Campus Carry Proposal Recommended for Study Committee From our friends at the GunSense NH and the NH Gun Violence Prevention Coalition: HB 1793 began as a bill that would prohibit any public institution of higher education from enacting any rules or policies restricting the possession, carry, storage, or lawful use of firearms or non-lethal weapons on campus. The public outpouring of opposition to this proposal was heard loud and clear by lawmakers. Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved an amendment that…
