Good News!

Thanks to the power of grassroots organizing, Citizens Bank has announced its plans to “exit the credit facilities” that fund Geo Group and CoreCIVIC, notorious private prison companies who are profiting from immigrant detention while holding people in inhumane and life-threatening conditions. Read the bank’s statement here, news coverage at WGBH, and the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition response.

ACTION: Resist 287(g) Agreements between ICE and Local Police

A 287(g) agreement is a partnership between local law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities, allowing designated officers to perform certain immigration enforcement functions in conjunction with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Southern New Hampshire Indivisible has provided a great guide to contacting your county officials about 287(g) agreements, including a Ready-to-Use Toolkit for Citizen Resistance.

Sign the Petition from Mascoma Forward (Grafton County Democrats)

From the petition organizers: “We invite you to join in promoting the statewide petition opposing the use of local police as federal ICE agents. It will be a visible public way for NH residents to resist their local officers’ participation in ICE’s often brutal enforcement tactics. The petition grew out of the 287(g) discussion group within the NH Immigrant Rights Network. The petition drive runs through September 30.
