Please call Governor Ayotte (603-271-2121) and ask her to veto the Tax Cap bill!
HB 1300 (Tax Cap) requires every NH community to include a tax cap question on their ballots during the 2026 and 2028 general elections. Communities can already adopt tax caps during their school budget and town meeting processes. This is much more sensible timing, because at those meetings people are focused on – and debating – budget issues. But once again, extremist Republicans are disregarding our tradition of local control.
There are many serious problems with HB1300. But one issue that hasn’t received much attention is that the question voters will see on their ballots is worded in a way that’s shamefully misleading. Voters will cast their ballot thinking it means one thing, when in fact it means something else.
For more on this issue and additional talking points, go HERE. Then call Governor Ayotte (603-271-2121) and ask her to veto HB 1300.
PLEASE NOTE:
By working closely with our coalition partners, Kent Street Coalition works hard to prioritize those bills that are most likely to have a significant impact, for good or bad, on individuals, our communities and the Granite State as a whole. Based on this work, we put forth recommendations about supporting or opposing bills. However, we encourage everyone to make their own choice about each bill. We include links to bills to help you in this decision-making process.
