Vote NO on the School Budget Cap Ballot Question

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. From our friends at MascomaForward.com:
In their ongoing crusade to dismantle our public schools, Republicans have withheld state funding. This means that every year the burden falls more heavily on local property taxpayers. GOP leaders blame schools for spending too much, when the real problem is that the state spends too little.
Vote NO on Question 2.
*And don’t just skip voting on it, as that will in essence be a YES vote!*
The right way to reduce our property taxes is to increase state funding for our schools.
Regardless of what advocates for this ballot question say, this tax cap proposal was designed with one goal in mind: to further undermine public education. Property taxes aren’t high because of runaway spending by schools; they’re high because the State refuses to pay its share of public education costs, downshifting the costs to property taxpayers. The pro-ballot measure sign campaign incorrectly states that approval of the cap will lower property taxes: while it would constrain the school budget portion of your property taxes, it will have no impact on the many other cost components that comprise property taxes. And despite what the language of the ballot question itself actually says, in many cases a tax cap will lead to cuts in student services and resources, because there will be nothing else that can be cut. Finally, school districts may already vote on adopting school tax caps during the normal budget process. This proposal is a power grab by Ayotte and her GOP/Free State-aligned Legislature that undercuts the local control so cherished in the Granite State.
